The drought in California keeps getting worse, with almost 60% of the state now facing “exceptional drought,” the most severe condition on the U.S. Drought Monitor’s scale and the worst recorded since it started issuing reports in 1990. To date, California is short more than one year’s worth of reservoir water, or 11.6 million acre-feet.
The early August thunderstorms that delivered devastating torrents of rain in some areas were "inconsequential" in terms of easing the worsening drought.

Actor/writer/director Jon Favreau's new film Chef (Open Road Films) hit theatres May 9. It’s the story of a chef who loses his restaurant job and starts up a food truck in an effort to regain his cooking mojo.
Love it or hate it (or just laugh out loud at some of the chef clichés the picture plates up), the film does feature some seriously beautiful food porn.
Winners of the 2014 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards were announced at a swank affair in New York, May 5.
Nancy Silverton of LA’s Pizzeria Mozza won for Outstanding Chef, while Pêche Seafood Grill in New Orleans won for Best New Restaurant.
