Hunters And Gatherers

A fall Hunter’s Dinner celebrating wild game is a tradition in many communities, especially those with an Italian background.

Chances are those events aren’t anything like the creative mayhem on display at the 3rd Annual Hunter’s Feast hosted by the Group of 7 Chefs at Toronto’s The Tempered Room on Monday night.

These are among the dishes served up you likely wouldn’t find at your local Italian Community Hall: squab with truffle mortadella, squid ink brioche and watercress; or some obster, duck, vanilla, tomato jam, pie. What about confit horse short ribs?

Guest chefs for the event included Jamie Bissonnette from Toro in NYC, Justin Severino from Cure in Pittsburgh, and Austin’s Ned Elliott of Foreign and Domestic fame. MRCA was happy to be a sponsor of the event.

The Group of Seven is a bunch of like-minded folk promoting a sustainable food community that thinks globally but acts locally, connecting chefs with producers, winemakers, fishers and foragers.

The bad brains behind the Group of Seven include Betrand Alepee, The Tempered Chef; Chris Brown, The Stop Community Food Centre; Marty Matheson, Parts & Labour and Scott Vivian, Beast Restaurant.
