Canada's Best New Restaurants 2014
We were pretty pumped to learn that MRCA pal Nick Nutting and his crew at Wolf in The Fog made it to the top spot on enRoute magazine’s Canada's Best New Restaurants 2014 list. Our congrats to Nick, and to Rest of the Best!
The restaurant, located above a surf shop in the town of Tofino, hard against the edge of Pacifc Rim National Park on Vancouver Island, got points for its awesome look and original take on West Coast Canada cuisine.
What’s on the menu? How about “the Humboldt squid, caught 300 metres deep off the coast and charred and sliced like a flank steak… creamy at its centre like a perfectly cooked scallop,” or, “the seaweed salad – its iodine crunch of kombu, bull kelp and macro punched up by puffed wild rice.”
The magazine also noted the artwork that adorns the restaurant, like the giant starburst sculptural piece by local artist Tammy Shymko, made from two-dozen wave smashed surfboards.
Congrats to all this year’s Top 10 finishers, awesome restaurants and incredible examples of Canada’s diverse terroir.
